Before I started working as a therapist in private practice, I worked in the emergency department and community mental health clinics. I spent years being there for people during the most difficult times in their lives. That work taught me something I still carry into every session today. I want to be the support that is there for anyone that needs it, whether they’re having their toughest day or they are just starting to notice something doesn’t feel right. No one should feel they have to wait to ask for help.

Through these experiences, I witnessed how much people can carry quietly and competently for a long time, until they can’t take it anymore. A lot of the people I work with now are “doing fine” on the outside. They’re the ones who are good in a storm, the ones everyone else calls first, who rarely get asked how they're doing. Well, that’s not the case anymore because I’m here to ask.

Katie Catalano, LCSW

Hello there, I’m Katie (she/her)! I’m a life-long learner and parts-work nerd. I work with high-achieving women, folks experiencing burnout and perfectionism, as well as those navigating complex relational trauma. I help these folks find that their worth comes not from what they do for others and learn to trust in their own wisdom. And, I don’t think that we have to lose those parts of ourselves that do care and strive in the process.

Why I Do What I Do

A big reason that I am a therapist today is because of the mentors I have had in my life and my first experience sitting on the couch. I know how healing it can be to talk to someone outside of it all because I’ve done it, through my own experience of loss and uncertainty. It has made me a better therapist to know what it feels like as the client. And I continue my own journey in therapy, even now, because I value being a therapist who is walking the walk.

“I want to hear people’s stories,
even if it’s still being written.
It’s an honor to be in your corner
while you write it.”

The Road to My Own Practice

I received my Bachelors (BS) in Psychology with a minor in Neuroscience in 2013. Leaving the Midwest for the Pacific Northwest after I graduated gave me the opportunity to learn from so many social workers. I worked in emergency shelters and community clinics in Seattle, WA until I returned to my home in the Midwest for graduate school. I received my Masters (MSW) in Social Service Administration from the University of Chicago in 2020. Throughout my graduate studies and after, I worked in community mental health clinics and the emergency department before transitioning to private practice.

I opened Rooted Mosaic Therapy in 2025 and have never been more excited to create something that is my own. As a fully licensed clinician, I believe it is important for me to continue to learn and grow. I completed my certification as a clinical trauma professional (CCTP) focusing on somatic techniques and Polyvagal Theory in 2024 and IFS Level 1 through the IFS Institute in 2025. I will be completing Level 2 in November 2026. You can learn more about how I incorporate what I’ve learned on my Individual Therapy page.

Outside the Therapy Room

A big reason that I believe there is a sports metaphor for every situation is because I love sports. I can’t necessarily help you figure out who to start and who to sit on your fantasy football team, but I can talk about Dawn Staley’s coaching style being inspirational and generational. The care she shows for her players is what I aspire to bring to every person I work with. Outside of sessions, you’ll probably find me creating something, reading, or getting outside. I love to knit, paint, and hike. And one of my favorite trips I’ve ever taken is to hike the “Mighty Five” in Utah.
